Custom Ski Goggles: What No One Tells You (But Should)

Custom Ski & Snowboard Goggles: 3 Things You Need to Know Before You Buy

Custom ski and snowboard goggles are having a moment, and it makes sense. Whether you’re creating something for your brand, a campaign, or just your own look on the slopes, goggles have become more than just functional. They’re expressive, social, and seriously visible.

But here’s the part most people overlook. Great design means nothing if the fundamentals aren’t right.

Before you get into colours, straps, or lens designs, there are three non-negotiables you need to understand.

1) Are your goggles actually skin safe?

This is one of the most overlooked areas, and one of the most important.

Your ski and snowboard goggles sit directly on your face for hours. That means the foam, frame, strap, and dyes are all in constant contact with your skin, often in sweaty, high-friction conditions.

You need to make sure your goggles are made from certified skin-safe materials. They should be free from harmful chemicals, heavy metals, and toxic substances, and meet strict European REACH safety standards.

REACH is a European regulation designed to protect people from exposure to harmful chemicals. If your goggles are not compliant, you could be exposing your skin to substances that cause irritation, allergies, or other issues over time.

Bottom line: If a manufacturer cannot confirm REACH certification clearly and confidently, that is a red flag.

2) “100% UV protection” is not enough

A lot of goggles will say “100% UV protection” but that phrase can be misleading.

What you should actually be looking for is UV400 protection.

UV400 means the lens blocks all light rays with wavelengths up to 400 nanometers. In simple terms, it protects your eyes from both UVA and UVB rays, which are the ones that cause long-term damage.

At high altitudes, UV exposure is stronger. Add snow reflection into the mix and your eyes are getting hit from every angle.

So if you're buying custom ski or snowboard goggles, make sure your lenses are not just aesthetic. They need to perform.

3) Are your magnetic lenses strong enough?

The mountains are unpredictable. Ice, branches, high-speed falls. Your goggles need to handle impact.

Look for goggles that meet EN ISO 18527-1 certification.

This standard ensures the goggles are tested for impact resistance, optical clarity, and protection against debris.

Without it, you are essentially wearing something that looks like a goggle but has not been proven to protect you.

And when you are moving fast down a mountain, that is not a risk worth taking.

Final thoughts

Custom goggles are one of the most powerful accessories on the slopes right now. They are bold, visible, and completely customisable, but they also sit at the intersection of fashion and safety.

So yes, design something that stands out.
But make sure it is built properly underneath.

Because the best goggles do not just look good.
They protect you while you are wearing them.
